Dining Table Before and After

I hope everyone had a great weekend, I know I did!

I wanted to show you a little before and after of a dining table and chairs that I recently redid. I had so much fun working on this project and love love love the

finished product.   I was actually shocked at the satisfaction I felt when it was

finished and am thinking I just might have to do one for myself!

The process went a little something like this:

Clean and sand surfaces

Take Chairs apart (the hubby did this part and it was no easy task!)

Prime and Paint (Cottage White by Behr but color matched by Valspar)

Stain table top and chair seats (Kona by Rustoleum)

A little light distressing

Polyurethane in semi gloss by Varathane

And here’s one more before and after just for fun!

  4. Sooo beautiful! I bet that took so much time but it was worth it! I love the white contrasted with the stain.

  6. Hello, I think I have this same table and chairs! Was the top wood or veneer? I'm thinking mine could possibly have veneer on the table top. If it is, how could I get this same look? This inspired me! Still remaining hopeful!

  8. Totally going to do this to my table. I was debating to just get rid of it, but I think I will actually like our table if we do this! I won't be embarrassed by it anymore! How is it holding up?

  9. Hi Kristin! Great post!!!
I was so excited to see your pics, because we have this exact table and chairs (minus the captain chairs, so sad...) but i can't complain, as i got the set for $40 off craigslist (waPow!) hahaha, Anyways, since i didn't come here to gloat, i do have a couple of questions if that is ok?
So, my WONDERFUL(.....) husband is hell bent on jumping into this table project today (like a few hours "today") and unfortunately, like most men, he doesn't want to ever do a lick of research on what look we are going for or how to do it properly (he already "test stained an area without me knowing and I almost chopped his head off!) and needless to say, I can't sleep because I'm worried he is going to mess my gorgeous table up!!! So far we have sanded down the entire table top and most of the chairs (we haven't done the skirt or the legs, I wasn't sure if we needed to sand them if we were going to be use the zinsser primer and/or chalk paint on them.... which brings me to my first question!)
So...we painted our kitchen cabinets WHITE WHITE. like, pure, un-tinted white (we used the zinsser primer for the cabinets, and I was wondering if you think it is imperative to match the white we use on the table and chairs to the white on our cabinets if they will be sitting in the kitchen right near the cabinets? Along the same lines, we have dark wood floors.... and just wanted any suggestions on if it is necessary to try and match the stain on the table to the floors exactly, or if can we just mix and match and get it close enough?
Sorry for all these questions, I know you are not a fortune teller, but you seem to know what you are doing, so I figured i'd take a shot in the dark here and see what you think? I am hoping that maybe I can somehow figure this all out last minute before my husband sneaks off to home depot early this morning before I can even wake up, and is knee deep in stain and paint before I can even see straight! oh men.. they just make life so fun!
Anyways, thanks for such a wonderful post, you did an amazing job on your table and chairs and I hope ours can come out even half as nice as yours did!
    Thank you =)

  11. Did you have to sand every nook and cranny?

  12. I have the same DR set which was given to me. Never a fan of the style but very sturdy for everday use with a busy family. I like the idea of giving it a facelift.

  13. In the middle of doing this exact table. Our top of the table is a thin veneer...and when getting to the staining part....ours made huge streaks across it?!? :( it soaks up the stain too much in some areas. Did you run into this problem?

  14. There's no sense in spending four hours making a gourmet meal if the seating at your dining table isn't comfortable. If you have the luxury of space, choose dining chairs with arms if you want your guests to get cozy after a meal and share conversation long into the night. dining table and chair sets
