I can’t even contain how excited I am to finally show you my Brother and Sis in Laws kitchen cabinets that we did way back in … wait for it … October!!! I know I know, better late than never, right?
Instead of boring you with the whole background story on their kitchen, let’s just get straight to the good part; the pictures of coarse!
Here’s how they looked before. Nothing fancy. They were builder grade cabinets that had very little personality, which is sooo not my brother and sil. They are so fun, hip and full of personality and their kitchen was begging to feel more like them!
And the after! I love that they were brave and did something other than the standard white or black “comfort zone” colors. The gray (Nights Armor by Olympic) completely updates the space and gives off a surprisingly warm, inviting vibe.
We did a light glaze over the gray that you can see best in this picture. Anna was worried about blending the gray color in with their brownish toned countertops and floors and the glaze did the trick. It all flows perfectly!
Are you loving the gray as much as I am?? We also did their laundry room and bathroom cabinets in black … I’ll show you those soon!
Since my brother and sis in law live in Vegas I couldn’t do the after pictures so they had their very talented friend Tosha take them. If you live in the Vegas area and need pictures done she does an amazing job! You can check out her facebook page here.
Happy Monday!
Kristin

DeleteDo you by chance remember what kind of glaze you used over them?

DeleteYour cabinets look so great. I just painted my kitchen walls gray. With my white cabinets...it's fresh and I love the look. I will be posting on it soon. I have a sneak peek on my blog now.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Don't you love how a little paint can change the whole look? Can't wait to check your kitchen out!
DeleteWow, what a great job! They look amazing! I'm a new follower ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
Deletewow--such a big transformation! I love the way the gray looks! nice work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gretchen! I'm glad you like the gray as much as I do!
DeleteWhat color did you use on the cabinets?
ReplyDeleteI used Nights Armor by Olympic ... although if I were to do it again I would not use Olympic. Maybe have it color matched and use Benjamin Moore Aura. It's a much better paint for cabinets.
DeleteKristin! I LOVE LOVE the gray! Your kitchen looks amazing! I havent jumped in and painted mine yet but I think this was just the inspiration I needed! {I'm way to obsessed with gray lol} Would love for you to share this at the party tonight! xo bridgett

Love the way the cabinets look, what glaze did you use? I've been agonizing over painting mine for months and really want to do them in grey but my countertops have a lot of brown in them and I'm afraid they won't look good together. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteKarin! I'm so glad you like them! The glaze was a custom mix. I mixed stain (special walnut by Minwax) with clear mixing glaze. If I had to guess the ratio was about 1:6. You really don't need much stain at all. I also put a thin coat of poly on the cabinets before glazing so the glaze wouldn't change the paint color, just give it more dimension. Good luck and feel free to email me with any more questions!
DeleteHi, Kristin! I'm actually getting ready to paint my cabinets gray but I'm going bold! Red behind all the cabinets! Using a neutral color in my dining room, and will probably put a glaze on the cabinets because I also have a beige-ish floor. Can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! I would love to see pictures when you are done ... good luck!
DeleteLove the look of these! I am painting my cabinets right now, the upper cabinets will be a lighter grey and a slightly darker grey on the lower cabinets. I am wondering about glaze, as I love the look. Did you put a clear coat over the top of your glaze? I have heard glaze can make the cabinets feel "sticky" without a top coat.
ReplyDeleteOh, also, what is the hardware used? I am thinking black since I want a darker countertop. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, my name is Kathy - I thought I had typed it in!
DeleteLove the flow of gray cabinets to countertop to floor. but wondering what is the color of countertop and flooring
ReplyDeleteDid you have to And or anything before ? Or just paint ?
ReplyDeleteDid you use liquid sandpaper first
ReplyDeleteOk. So doing this! Please tell me the steps.. Did they sand the cabinets? Distress them? Do i have to paint cabinets white first then gray?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have a bi-level home like my wife and I. I'm curious to see the full wall from patio doors and into the living room area. Basically the wall opposite of stove. Looks like you striped it?
ReplyDeleteAwesome Job! Very eye appealing!
