Tour the Lane {Boys Shared Bedroom}

Today I thought I would share G and D’s shared room. We finished one giant bedroom down in the basement (It was meant to be two rooms but we opted for one big one instead) and it is the perfect spot for the two little boys to share.

At this point it has good bones, is painted and has all the functional pieces that we need, but for some reason I always seem to get stuck here. I don’t know why I have such a hard time with putting things up on the walls, but I do. I have a few ideas of what I want to do though and I’ll keep ya posted of any changes!

This is a look into the room from the doorway. I could only get half of the room in each shot, so hopefully you will get the full picture of it as you check out the rest of the pictures.

I took this shot before the hardware was painted for this dresser, but look here to see where I posted the finished look.

Don’t mind the little miss watching TV! She is my little shadow and ends up in lots of random shots!

I love having these Ikea shelves for toy storage. I’m thinking about doing something to line the back of them, maybe with fabric or wrapping paper or good ol’ paint.

I’m not a big lover of TV's in kids rooms, but the kids usually have a movie night together on the weekends and this was the perfect spot. Then they can watch their movie downstairs while the hubby and I can enjoy one together upstairs. It works for us.

The couch was a hand me down from Grandma and I just threw a couple soft rugs on top to update it a bit and tie it into the room.

All in all I am really happy with their room and am excited to start adding some of the fun finishing touches that I know will make it feel complete.

Tour the Lane {Laundry/Guest Bathroom}

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with my laundry room. Love that I have one, hate all the laundry … ha! Does Anyone relate?

Really though, this is one of the most multi functional and used rooms in our home. It’s sort of a laundry/mud/storage/bath room. So many purposes packed into one small space! It’s the place everyone goes when they first walk in the door and the place everyone goes before they leave the house. Not to mention the laundry and bathroom trips galore.

One of my fav things in the room is the slate tiled floor. I love the color and the pattern and the dirt hiding factor isn’t bad either! I was a little worried about the durability factor when we installed it, but once installed and sealed it has been great!

The floating shelves and labeled baskets are a nice, easily accessible storage solution. They are for random things that would otherwise pile up on the counter and have been extremely helpful in keeping down the clutter. You can’t tell from the picture but the baskets are labeled for – Misc socks, kids gardening/sunglasses, baseball mitts, things to go back, Dad, and Navi (The boys have their own bins in another spot). I also keep the paper shredder and a small container for spare change and keys on the shelves.

With four kids, laundry seems to take over around here. Everyone has their own laundry bin in their rooms but I love having these labeled bins that make it easy for everyone to know what goes where. Yes, even the two year old knows where to put her laundry. And as soon as one fills up, it gets thrown in the wash.DSC03133

Here, in this little tiny corner of the room is where the majority of the action happens. This area houses everyone’s shoes, backpacks, jackets, hats and gloves and as the kids get bigger the space seems to get smaller and smaller. I’m thinking that one day we will probably trade spaces with the closet to the left in order to make a little more much needed room!

Each boy has their own canvas bin with their initial on it to keep winter gear like hats, gloves and scarves in. For the most part I like that they are up high so the kids aren’t getting in to them all year long. But honestly in the winter when they are constantly being used, they mostly live on the laundry room counter.

Then we enter the half bath. This is the room that I lock myself in when things are getting a little crazy … you all have one of those spots, right!?

I bought this mirror at Pier One years ago.  It has lived in three different homes now and I have loved it in every one! We originally purchased it for our family room in our first home, but I actually thinks it works better here. It’s a perfect fit for this space and I love the traveled feel that it gives the room!

So there you have it my friends, the laundry/guest bathroom!

Tour the Lane {Baby Girl Room}

This is one of my favorite rooms in our home, and one that I wondered if I would ever get!

When we found out (after 3 little guys) that our fourth little munchkin was going to be a girl, we were surprised to say the least and left the doctors office thinking we would believe it once she was actually in our arms.

And then the wheels started spinning. Heck, they were right with the boys, so it was safe to say that they would also be right this time. Therefore I thought, let the decorating begin!

I knew I wanted her room to be girly without feeling overwhelmingly, well, PINK!Splashes of pink would be enough. So with that in mind, I picked her bedding first and just went from there. And this is what I came up with.

My little miss loves to read stories. I’m thinking of completing this corner with some book shelves of some sort and making a true reading nook.

It is the little details that I love the most. The beading on the curtains and pillow, the precious clear knobs and pulls on the dresser,  and the ruffles on the lamp and pillow. They make the room feel special, and that is just the feeling little miss deserves!

Tour the Lane {Kitchen}

I thought it might be fun to do a tour of my home, and what better place to start than the kitchen? This is where we spend 90% of our time.

It goes a little something like this: Eat, clean, eat, clean, homework, eat, clean, eat clean … I think you get my drift. Someone is always eating and I am always cleaning it up, just in time to eat again!

And while we LOVE our kitchen, there are a few things that when building our house and designing the kitchen we didn’t consider (like say, the fact that we would end up being a family of four six … which has led us to a few little problems.

DSC02591

Do you notice anything that might be a problem? Yep! No kitchen table!!! This is the single thing that drives me crazy about our kitchen. Yes we have a HUGE island that we {thought} would work and is awesome for baking and entertaining.

The problem?

It fits five chairs, and we have six bodies needing chairs!

The solution?

Dad stands, while everyone else chills in their chairs. Hardly ideal in my book.

The Plan?

Eventually we will chop that big beautiful island down to a third of it’s size to accommodate a table that we can ALL fit around. It will be bitter sweet. I really do love having such a huge workspace, but I’m willing to trade it for the mere sake of family dinner time. It will be so nice to all sit down together for a meal!

DSC02593

This little area is where I spend way to much time. It’s pretty much command central around here. It’s where I blog and pay bills. I also keep all the kids school papers and every thing that keeps our home and family running.

So there you have it, the Dahl family kitchen. I love my kitchen, but like I said earlier it needs a few changes. I’m thinking that it needs some lightening and brightening.

OOOH the possibilities! New paint? A lighter island and hood? Or I could go all out and paint the cabinets? Some fun new barstools?

What would you do?
