Featured at Involving Color Today!

Hey everyone! I am so so excited to tell you that we are being featured over at Involving Color today! (Insert happy dance here!) They are featuring the black bathroom cabinets that we painted and posted about here.

 

 

I love this blog because she shows what a paint color looks like in a room, on a piece of furniture or like in our case on cabinets. It really gives you an idea of how a color will look before actually taking the plunge. And it’s organized so that you can search for a color by brand, color, or space. Black Bathroom & Laundry Room Cabinets Before & After

 

How’s everyone’s week going? We are looking forward to the weekend here! Saturday will be filled with indoor soccer games which the boys are dyeing to play in since they had to miss the last couple weeks when they were sick. And yes, I am that mom that never thought she would yell and scream at the games … but I totally do!

Today I wanted to show you the rest of my Brother and Sis in Laws cabinets that we repainted. We did their kitchen cabinets in a nice warm gray (check them out here) and the rest of the cabinets in their house black.

Here is the half bath. I love how they turned out. We used a semi gloss poly on all the cabinets so they would be cleanable but not in your face shiny.

 

I love the casual style of their home. If you remember their kitchen, it also has a striped wall like this one in the bathroom and I think it keeps the house feeling cohesive. Plus, I’m just a big fan of fat horizontal stripes!

 

 

 

Just to give you a tiny idea of what the cabinets looked like before, here is a shot peeking into the full bathroom and the laundry room.

 

Here is the laundry room now. Super clean and simple. Anna DIYed the baskets on the top of the cabinets out of diaper boxes. Aren’t they perfect?!

 

The hardware is the same as what she put in the kitchen, with a different finish. Again, keeping with the flow of their home.

 

And the full bathroom that is next to the laundry room …

 

Those stripes again … LOVE!

 

Here’s a super grainy shot of the Master Bath before. (It’s all she had … but makes for a great before & after!)

 

Doesn’t the after look amazing?? I love that they added a chunky black frame around the mirror. It really completes the room.

 

So, there you have it! I am in love with all the cabinets and am always amazed at the huge difference paint can make in your home! Oh, and once again the awesome photography was done by my Sis in laws friend Tosha. Go check her stuff out here!

Gray Kitchen Cabinets Before & After

 

I can’t even contain how excited I am to finally show you my Brother and Sis in Laws kitchen cabinets that we did way back in … wait for it … October!!! I know I know, better late than never, right?

Instead of boring you with the whole background story on their kitchen, let’s just get straight to the good part; the pictures of coarse!

Here’s how they looked before. Nothing fancy. They were builder grade cabinets that had very little personality, which is sooo not my brother and sil. They are so fun, hip and full of personality and their kitchen was begging to feel more like them!

 

 

And the after! I love that they were brave and did something other than the standard white or black “comfort zone” colors. The gray (Nights Armor by Olympic) completely updates the space and gives off a surprisingly warm, inviting vibe.

 

 

We did a light glaze over the gray that you can see best in this picture. Anna was worried about blending the gray color in with their brownish toned countertops and floors and the glaze did the trick. It all flows perfectly!

 

 

 

 

Are you loving the gray as much as I am?? We also did their laundry room and bathroom cabinets in black … I’ll show you those soon!

Kitchen Cabinets Before & After

 

Hello, Hello! So I know I have been promising pictures of my parents kitchen cabinets for awhile now and believe me, I have been dyeing to show them off! I went up to their house last weekend to take pictures and of coarse it ended up being a super cloudy/overcast day. Needless to say the pictures didn’t end up being as great as I had hoped, but I’m way too excited to wait any longer!

I am like a proud mama with her new baby with these cabinets. They were such a labor of love and quite a learning experience, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome!

 

 

Does the desk chair look familiar? You can go here to see the before and after of that little gem! I love that it adds a little pop of color to that side of the room and also plays with the colors in the adjoining family room (watch for that transformation in an upcoming post!)

 

 

 

In this shot you can see the glaze. Don’t you just love how it settles into the recessed areas and adds a hint of country charm to the cabinets?

 

And because you KNOW I love a good before and after (who doesn’t?!?) … here’s how she looked before. Dated for sure …

This makes me want to paint my cabinets or maybe my island and hood … hmm the wheels are turning!

And for anyone wondering about paint color, it’s Dove White by Benjamin Moore with a custom mixed glaze over the top. For the glaze I used 1/4 parts stain (Minwax Dark Walnut) to 3/4 parts clear mixing glaze. Really you just have to play around with it until you get the desired result. And then a few coats of poly by Varathane in satin finished the look.

I already have a couple more cabinet projects lined up and can’t wait to get started! And you know I’ll keep you posted on it all! Have a great day!

To Glaze or Not to Glaze … THAT is the Question!

 

As you already know, I am painting my parents kitchen cabinets. They chose to go with Benjamin Moore’s White Dove. It’s pretty much a nice creamy white that is going to look awesome along with all of the other changes (like new hard wood flooring and granite countertops). While they liked the color, they were also considering doing a glaze over the top so I did one door in each finish in order for them to decide.

 

It’s amazing how much a glaze can completely change the look! There are so many different glazing technique’s, each with their own outcome. The sky is the limit! So now that I know what finish I would choose, and what my parents ended up choosing, I am curious … what would YOU choose?

Picking the Perfect Paint Color

Over the last few months my parents have been in the process of a major overhaul of their kitchen, dining room, family room and bedroom … basically their entire main level. It has been a major project that they are tackling most of the work on and I have been lucky enough to give my input on a lot of the changes along with help to transform many of their current furniture. (Remember this post about their bedroom furniture transformation?)

Right now the focus is on the kitchen. The cabinets, floor, and countertops are original to the house and well, ready for a little update!

 

So far they have repainted the walls a nice warm creamy neutral and installed new lighting. The new granite counter tops have been picked out along with the new wood floor and will both be installed soon. That leaves us with those cabinets. My mom and Dad were going back and forth between staining and painting them, and finally decided on paint, which is where I come in! (And when I say “I”, I should mention that the hubby will be a major part in the cabinet overhaul … have I ever mentioned that he is a painter? Yep, he paints cars for a living and now paints all my furniture projects! LOVE that guy!)

We knew we wanted a light creamy white, but picking just the right shade is key to the whole kitchen turning out. So the pressure is on!

Here are the colors that my Mom and I narrowed it down to. They are all BM paints and it was crazy how close they were when we hung them all up next to one another. I really don’t think we could go wrong with any of them, which made choosing even harder!

 

Here they are with the granite. (Which in the end they chose a different granite, but it is very similar to this one … you get the idea!)

Keeping in mind that they will be grounded by a nice dark wood floor, what color would you choose? And does anyone else think BM has given the same paint color about four different names? Tricky Tricky!
